Vitamin B1 (thiamine)

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) supports your energy, concentration and nervous system. Discover natural sources, functions and spiritual significance for body and soul.

What is thiamine?

Thiamine is a water-soluble vitamin that the body cannot store. Therefore, you must get it daily through food. In the body, thiamine is converted into thiamine diphosphate (TDP), the active form that helps convert food into energy.

What is vitamin B1 in?

Vitamin B1 is found in many natural foods, especially in:

  • Meat (especially pork)
  • Whole grain products and brown rice
  • Legumes
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Vegetable

Examples per serving

  • 1 slice of whole grain bread (35 g) → 0.1 mg
  • 1 handful of peanuts (25 g) → 0.25 mg
  • 1 piece of pork (75 g prepared) → 0.5 mg
  • 1 serving of cooked brown rice (75 g) → 0.1 mg
  • 1 serving of lentils (100 g cooked) → 0.2 mg

What do you need thiamine for?

  • The energy supply of your body
  • The burning of carbohydrates
  • A healthy nervous system
  • Normal heart function
  • Mental resilience and concentration

How much do you need per day?

  • Adults: 1.1 mg
    - Adjusted amounts apply to children and pregnant women

Shortage and excess

Vitamin B1 deficiency can lead to:

  • Fatigue and concentration problems
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Irritability or dejection
  • In severe cases: nervous disorders (such as beriberi)

Too much thiamine is not harmful:

  • The body absorbs only what is needed
  • The excess you pee out
  • There are no known adverse health effects

Vitamin B1 and the soul

Thiamine is the vitamin of life force and focus. It strengthens the connection between head and heart and helps you to direct your path with clarity and confidence. On an energetic level, it nourishes the solar plexus chakra, which symbolizes personal strength, courage and action. Where vitamin B2 helps you keep energy flowing, vitamin B1 gives you the inner fire to begin - the first step toward movement and creation.
